Bees make propolis from tree resins, young bud oils and plant sap that they collect to build unique hive structures to provide highly effective hive hygiene and safety.
The medicinal properties of propolis have been known since ancient times. Propolis products are household natural remedies in traditional medicine and are becoming increasingly popular in Western Natural Therapeutic Health Care.
Honey bee propolis is well known, however, Australian Native Bees collect propolis ingredients from a much wider range of plants compared to honey bees. The reason is that they have a much wider application for propolis in their hives than honey bees. This diversity provides a powerful and more complex spectrum of medicinal properties which results in the high bio-activity level of our Native Bee propolis.
This is also evident in the dark colour of the native bee propolis vs the lighter honey bee propolis.
To accommodate the bees’ need for plant diversity, we place our hives in pristine Australian bush, rainforests and sites where they have access to natural bush.
Our Propolis Extract is also 100% natural - all other propolis products are made from honey bee propolis where either petro-chemicals or ethanol are used as solvents.
Our Propolis is further fully traceable - all our propolis comes from our own hives and each bottle is fully traceable back to the hive where the propolis came from.
Bees are under threat from environmental changes and habitat destruction. The decline in bee and insect numbers will have a drastic effect on the Australian natural environment. We don’t want that to happen and are fully committed to maximizing bee vitality and population growth.
All our hive management practices have been developed with the wellbeing of the bees in mind and include:
Supporting our bees during adverse weather or drought by making specially formulated food supplements available to them, if needed.
We only collect small quantities of propolis in a completely non-intrusive and sustainable manner.
We do not collect honey from our bees as it is very important for their food security during challenging times.
Our bees are kept in natural bush and rain forests and therefore not exposed to harmful chemicals and pesticides.
There are over 1,600 native bee species (Apidae Meliponini) in Australian. Commercial honey bees (Apis mellifera) are not native to Australia, and were introduced from Europe in about 1822.
Most Australian bees are solitary bees which raise their young in burrows in the ground or in tiny hollows in timber. Australia also has 11 species of social native bees which do not sting! Native bees are highly effective crop pollinators and play a vital role in pollinating Australia's unique wildflowers and bush land. They also produce a limited amount of stingless bee honey that is a delicious bush food and delicacy.
It has become common knowledge worldwide that bees are under threat due a variety of contributing factors including viruses, infectious agents, parasites and invasive species, pesticides, GM plants, environmental changes, habitat loss and poor nutrition.
With deforestation many natural native bee colonies are being destroyed and it is very important that native bees are reintroduced in Australian farmland, natural bush and neighbourhoods. Together with other Australian native bee farmers, we are reintroducing native bees in gardens and bush land in Australia where they are well loved for pollinating gardens and fruit trees and even producing a little bit of stingless bee honey.
Native Bee Propolis Extract is 100% authentic and traceable - we are passionate Native Bee Farmers and only process propolis from our own hives in Australia.
Native Bee Propolis Extract is natural and pure - the only other ingredient is a certified organic vegetable based excipient.
Native Bee Propolis Extract is highly potent – each batch is tested by our laboratories to guarantee a bio-activity level of at least 30 mg total phenolic content per 1ml of extract.
At Nature's Gold we are very passionate about our bees and we developed a specific method to harvest small quantities of propolis in a completely non-intrusive and sustainable manner.
