Why Buy Manuka Honey MGO 263 500g jars in Australia

Manuka honey earned its moniker as a superfood thanks to Dr Peter Molan, a researcher who wanted to learn more about the properties of different types of honey from around the world. Now you’ve probably heard of honey such as clover, wildflower, heather and orange blossom but did you know there are even alfalfa, buckwheat, sage, eucalyptus and lavender varieties? Basically, the type of honey is determined by the plant that the bees feed on and from where they collect their nectar.

Manuka honey comes from bees that feed on the Manuka tree in New Zealand. It’s part of the Leptospermum family of plants. In New Zealand, there is only one indigenous Leptospermum and that’s the Leptospermum Scoparium. However, it’s a different story here in Aus where we have over 80 variants. Dr Molan discovered that Manuka honey contained a chemical substance called Methylglyoxal (MGO) and that this has anti-bacterial properties that offer many proven health benefits.

Australian Manuka – the Honey that Beats All Other Honeys

It’s a bold statement to make, but amongst our 80 varieties of Leptospermum, we have some that have much greater concentrations of Methylglyoxal than the Scoparium variety and are naturally more potent. At Nature’s Gold, we’ve taken those variants to create premium-quality Manuka honey that we harvest from our own hives here in Queensland. Every batch of honey we make, including our Manuka honey 263 MGO, is tested and certified by university scientists to guarantee that it’s pure and that it contains the stated concentration of MGO.

What Does Manuka Honey 263 MGO Mean?

MGO denotes the concentration of Methylglyoxal in the honey and the higher the MGO number, the higher the concentration of Methylglyoxal. Therefore, our Manuka MGO 263 has 263mg of Methylglyoxal per kilogram. This is a relatively low concentration when you consider that we make honeys ranging up to MGO 829 and super-strength honeys of MGO 1000+. While it is not recommended for use in smoothies and on toast as we recommended using less active honey such as our MGO 30 honey, it is however the perfect MGO for treating minor skin wounds and ulcers which you can find with our Manuka honey hand cream. It’s also a good choice if you plan to take honey daily as a probiotic or if you have a sore throat or tickly cough.
